Indian Music Academy – Welcome to the world of Indian Music

Music is the Soul of Life, even your life depends on Music... the rhythmic beat of your heart . It infuses joy and warmth into the world. Irrespective of what genre of music you listen to - Hindustani, Carnatic, Bhajan, Ghazal, Sufi, Qawali, Folk or any other form ; a Unique "Indianess" that binds these forms together and have echoed through generations.

The Indian Music Academy realised the true potential of this lucid art form, and in a country brimming with such immense talent, a guiding hand was the need of the hour. Thus evolved IMA , with the sole purpose of nurturing this untapped resource , and providing all Indians an opportunity and a respected platform , to make a contribution , thereby enabling the successful rise of Indian Classical Music .

One needs a piercing vision , brave , truthful , strong willed individuals to swim against the tide, and here too this unique initiative was undertaken as a daunting challenge by Durga Jasraj and Vikram Shankar of Art and Artistes’ .

It took six long years after putting in relentless efforts and an undying spirit , to finally realize the dream , which seemed so distant , and IMA saw daylight in February 2006.

With the rapid change in evolving India, it was imperative for IMA to have an official website ... it was a way of extending our horizon and reaching out to the teeming millions, who craved for that "extra ". It further portrays as a forum to bring together living legends, stars and potential stars to interact , learn , explore , promote and experience the divinity of Indian Music .

IMA ... the movement

IMA the movement is of the musicians by the musicians and for the musicians, and most emphatically for the musical ears around the globe .We take immense pride in being the pioneers in this stride. The INDIAN MUSIC ACADEMY is the first of its kind – with musicians from every genre coming together to achieve common goals, formed primarily for achieving the objective of spreading and popularising Indian Music globally

IMA has a social responsibility too wherein the academy looks after the welfare of its fraternity by providing medical aid to needy musicians and their dependants.

IMA Launch

IMA was launched on 17th February 2006 at the Jamshedji Bhabha Theatre, NCPA, Mumbai, India by the Former Honorable President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, extending his sincere support to this endeavour. Since its inception, IMA aims to develop probable listeners of the future by helping them understand the basics of Indian Music through innovative promotions and presentations
